Today I finally finished a sculpture project that I've been working on in class now since the beginning of the semester (two months ago - eek!). My teacher, for some odd reason, had us take a very long time in the process of molding, but did not give much time for painting. So, after only two nights of painting this is what I came out with:
I always thought about how amazing it would be to do Marilyn Monroe's makeup. I have a giant canvas of this same picture of her in my room, and always stared at it in awe. It was like I had her in front of me like a real-life client! Working the shadows, contours, and highlights into her face. I'm very happy with how it came out and am so glad I chose her as my subject.
Oops! Forgot to mention what she is made out of- the initial mold was made out of plastalina (about 2 blocks worth) then, I made a wood windmill patterned border around that, poured plaster on top, got the negative, then (with a little bit of vasaline inbetween) plaster on top of that to get the positive.
If you have any questions about what the process of making a plaster, half 3D painting, is like.. please feel free to leave comments and I can let you know!
